book provides readers with a single source reference that benchmarks the7 G/ K5 D( D( U5 ~# ^. W+ d
current best practices of experienced pharmaceutical scientists/researchers.7 T# A- P( r; }+ t- r! [, D
Questions like ‘‘How hot, how long, what conditions are appropriate?’’ and

chemistry of drug degradation are addressed in an objective, detailed scientific

Compiling a book to be used as a scientific reference for the topic of
4 c: a7 |( Z& ?2 Qpharmaceutical stress testing was a daunting task. Stress testing, as it relates
; y1 v9 {9 M7 w+ h7 Dto traditional small molecule pharmaceuticals, is very broad and scientifically
. n+ b4 J) G+ L% {complex. Thus, this book seeks to be a practical and scientific guide W" e: E+ x+ T+ T3 B( T8 W4 Y. ^
which will, hopefully, stimulate new ideas and further development of the/ M N$ O- K+ v+ @' `% o$ q1 v
science. C! i/ E$ q, `/ A/ e5 b7 T
This undertaking is done with some trepidation, since I realize that discussion4 N5 Y* N3 B, k7 e6 Y3 g
of this topic could lead to attempts to formalize or standardize (i.e.,; W8 F* L$ _! \7 W! D2 D7 e
regulatory standardization) an area of pharmaceutical science that relies on
) k8 G5 { _( n5 p% Zscientific expertise and flexibility. Each new drug compound, formulation,
a4 o% |* ~# Sroute of administration, delivery device, etc. has the potential to present. H2 m: p& i: N7 R: z7 |. \ y
unique challenges and unanticipated problems, and should be approached/ Z' _' F a: N
with such a mindset. The pharmaceutical researcher must be free to design+ Q ]- Q/ K! R! Y4 r3 f# _ @

through stress testing. Nonetheless, it is hoped that this book will provide
